I've had the bike for almost 2 years now and I have never liked the headlight. Most people like it but it's just not my steeze. I picked this up from Revzilla and I gotta say that I am loving it. I also threw on some led projector lamps just to test out. Here are pics with and without them.

I also removed the Danmoto exhaust because of the new California law. Done with mods. Just need a Corbin seat.

I was, however not much to it. Just removed the headlight. Does not work with existing bracket but no need to remove either. I'll make a small video just to show a closer more detailed look just to show how easy it is. Links to what I installed.

Hi czrlaker. Really digging the 'neo-retro' look! Inspired me to go for one myself :smile2:

I wanted to ask -
1. Do we need to do any rewiring/additional wires etc. for the EMGO headlight? Since it comes with a H4 bulb, I'm assuming it's plug and play with the OEM headlight socket?
2. Considering you've also switched to the LED, how has your experience been so far - low and high beam throw?

Thanks in advance!

Hey everyone! I'm brand new to the forum. Just picked up my beautiful baby last week. A matte black Z650 with the green trellis frame.
Seems a little early to go digging into modifying her looks but I really dig the retro looking round headlights. Really nice look Czrlaker.
I also found that retro black Z650 on pinterest earlier today but there seems to be very few people doing this kind of look on our bike.
There are some cool examples of modded Versys 650 and older ER-6s.

Do it.... I love this bike. I was on the fence about trading it in for a z900 but don't need the extra CCs. I like seeing mods on this bike. Gives ideas. For me tho I'll be keeping the street tires because I do go riding with a group up to the mountain twisties east of San Diego. But the tires look legit with the cafe style. And welcome to the family.

I think I will! But I do have a few priorities up on the list.
This will be my daily commuting machine, come rain or shine, on a very windy and long bridge, highway and city traffic involved. So I need to get her ready for that first. Frame sliders, handlebar riser, windshield..
I would also stick to the street tires. That's what I really like about that Versys 650 mod. The style is there but the function of the machine hasn't been messed around with. Thats what I'll probably be shooting for when I get to it.

And welcome to the family.
Thanks!!:smile2:

This is my version, i replaced the original headlight with a HD like one
Looks good bro. I might make the jump. Ill make a review video of mine. There is a vibration noise that if I cant solve. Im going to replace it with one of those daymaker style lights. Is that an engine guard I see on there or is that my imagination. Eres del DF o puro pedo?

Hello, new to this forum and happy to be here! Can I ask what you did with the turn signals? The reason I ask is because I bought one of the HD headlights with integrated turn signals and I'm not sure how I'm going to hook it up. It has the harley 3 prong connector with it and it doesn't look like there would be an easy way to connect the turn signal wiring. Has anyone else attempted one of these swap outs before and can share some knowledge? I thought about returning the integrated one and just a LED headlight with fork mounted turn signals or something like that if I can't get the integrated one to work. For reference here is the one I bought.

Any knowledge or recommendations is appreciated. Thanks!!!

Hi Bosco,
Rod has apparently installed one of these HD like headlight. Maybe send him a PM to see if he can help you with your doubts. The amazon link shows a connector for the headlight that looks like a regular H4 socket but it's hard to know for sure without a closer look. It describes as having a H4 adapter. Maybe send us some pictures of the hardware itself? (H4 is what our z650 uses for headlights)

This model you purchased is one of the few option I could possibly buy here in Brazil. I've had an eye on it for a while now but I'll admit to some dithering when committing to a purchase. This is 100% due to legal issues about changing stock lights on motor vehicles here in Brazil. It's little crazy, but even if I simply exchanged my stock halogen bulb to an LED model, by law I would have to do a complete vehicle safety inspection and issue new registration noting the modification in order for it to be road legal again.

I decided I would wait and have all of my lighting mods done together due to this nuisance..

I do hope you go through with this! I think the bike would look REALLY nice with one of these! Keep us posted!

I am also disappointed about Z650 headlight. I was checking your pictures and to be honest, it looks better than I imagined.

In order to improve the visibility, I tried different H4 LED bulbs (also LED with integrated lens). Yes, they are better than the stock one, but the reflector is so weird that it is really hard to achieve a satisfactory result (imo at lest). A friend of mine has a CRF 250 and the quality of lightning is far superior in my opinion (we tried the same LED bulbs for comparison), I believe the reflector geometry is better. Also the LED with integrated lens is more difficult to setup, since the beam angle is based on the position of the bulb itself and not related to reflector.

I am curious how's the new 2020 headlight...I am thinking to upgrade the entire headlight unit with the 2020 version. But since I saw your results, I'm thinking also at a rounded shape headlight, maybe something more futuristic in terms of design. :)
