New to forum. Question about gearing!

Hey everyone, I just picked up my z650 a couple days ago. I have been riding for about 8 years, but the z650 is the first bike i've had in 2 years since being stationed in Alaska. The only concern I have after riding it is the way the gears are spaced. I have to be in 6th gear just to cruise at 35 mph. And in 6th gear going 60-65 mph i'm running about 6000 - 6500 rpms. It just doesn't really feel right. Is everyone else's bike like this? Other than that I love the bike. I have already ordered a new set of mirrors and the fender eliminator. Any recommendations on new exhaust?

To piggyback on this, what RPM do folks normally cruise around at? My bike seems to be pretty happy around 3-5k rpm, and grumpy below 3k.

6th gear at 35 mph seems a bit off to me though. Im usually going 45+ in 6th gear.

Stock gearing on this bike, 6000RPM in 6th gear = 80MPH

Check again.

Garage
6th gear
60mph 4500 rpm
70mph 5500 rpm

So something isn't right.
Just checked hope this helps in any way.

Thanks for the info everyone. Does changing the rear sprocket to a 43T make much difference?
Also I was mistaken earlier, I took it out today and it was right around 5100rpm going 65. Kinda stinks because you’re not suppose to go over 4000rpm during the break in!

Raise your hand if you've ever kept a bike/car/anything under the specified RPM during 'break-in'.

That's truthfully a guide. I've never kept within that RPM limiter that they specify during 'break-in' period since it's almost impossible to ride anywhere while following that. One of the bigger points during break-in period is to vary RPMs and not maintain a steady rev location all the time.
