Stock Z650 and Z650 with Yoshimura Alpha exhaust

The AFR is definitely close enough you don't need tuning, but there is quite a bit of power to be had from 4700 - 8200 RPM's with a new fuel map alone.

Hey Tremonte, been following your channel from the early days and got the z650 as my first bike late February. Awesome bike btw!

I plan on getting a fuel controller for the bike later, but as is would you recommend installing a block off plate if I were to get the Yoshi? Would the purpose be to just limit the popping on decel?

You won't need the block off plate. We only did it to make sure we got accurate AFR readings. It's only a theory, but it could potentially lead to cooler running temps. The popping on decel on the older Ninja 650's and ER6's was due to the split air induction. AKA snorkels, that were in place to quieten it down. The Z650 had it's air box redesigned and doesn't have this issue. Worse case, run it stock. If it starts to suffer from the popping, do a block off. You'll drop another pound or two by gutting that crap out, if that's something that matters to you. Oh yeah, I also found that you DO NOT need the resistor on the smog pump harness. I removed it out of curiosity and haven't had any issues.

I retract the above statement about not needing the resistor. CE light came on. Put the resistor back in, and after riding for a bit, it went back off. Just make sure if you guys do the pair valve removal to use a resistor of appropriate size. Either 22ohm 10w, 200ohm 1w, 500ohm .5w and possibly 1k .25w Not sure if the 1k is enough resistance to trick the ECU, but you need to make sure that what ever you use, it has enough heat dissipation.

Thanks for the tip. Starting to think that once we have enough valuable information going on here that a sticky should be in order for easier finds.
