Hi all,

The manual states that after a wet ride, the chain should be lubricated to avoid corrosion. In the store, they also told me to lubricate the chain once in a while. But I forgot to ask what kind of oil or grease I can use best. So I have 2 questions:

  • What kind of lubircation is best? Grease or oil?
  • What brand/product, available in Europe, is recommended?

Cheers,
Christof

The two I like are Maxima Chain Guard and Maxima Chain Wax. The former penetrates well and does a great job of lubricating. But it flings off and makes a small mess at first. It also attracts dirt. The wax attracts less dirt and flings less, but it does not lubricate the chain as well.

See my post about the Scottoiler, which keeps the chain lubed automatically.

for cleaning you can just use regular wd40 as a first degreaser or the one from the specialist line designed for chains, for lubing use whatever your store has, i've used castrol and motorex chain lube in the past and now i'm trying the lithium formula by wd40 to see if there is any difference.
