I've found a Z650 and a Ninja 650 at very good prices but the dealer is 120 miles from me. I'm wondering what happens if I try to get a local Kawi dealer to do the 1000 mile check-up and any other first year warranty service. Will I be shunned like a leper for buying at one place and bring it in for service at another? Will they find reasons not to do the service? Will they put sugar in my gas tank?

Thanks. I hate to be "that guy" but the prices are $1800 dollars less at the out of town dealer.

Holy cow it shouldn't cost $1800 for a service and the Z650 isn't even a superbike! That Kawi dealer sounds sketchy if they're going to charge you that much. Maybe get a quote from the out of town dealer and see if the closer one can match it?

Sorry, I guess my question was not worded well. The $1800 difference is the amount of savings if I buy either bike out of town. Yes, they know me at my local dealer but I found a dealer just over the state border that will sell me either bike at much less than here in town. Frankly, I think i'm going with the Ninja over the Z650. I rode them both and unexpectedly was very enamored at how much better the ride and lack of vibration was compared to the Z.

None of the first year service is under warranty, you will still have to pay out of pocket, even for the check-up, which you can do for yourself. Usually the dealer will only throw in the 600mile oil change and inspection if you buy the bike new, and are a decent negotiator or a repeat customer. Try to get your local dealer to compete on the pricing, then do your own service afterwards. You'll save the most money in the long run by doing that.
