Bought the Z650 about a year ago and had some gear shifting issues ever since.

1) Shifting down from the 3rd to the 2nd gear leaves the gear not properly shifted. When releasing the clutch leaver slightly, one can feel the gear falling into its proper position. The display however shows the correct gear at all times.

2) Sometimes gear shifting leads into no gear position and the display shows -- (happened only a few times)

3) For all gears, shifting them up or down, I can feel a short resistance. Not sure how to describe, but the shift is just not very smooth.

Wonder if this is related to the cassette type transmission (never had one before). Or should I take this up with my Kawasaki shop.

- What kind of oil do you use? Brand? weight?
- How often do you change the oil?

Hey mate. I got a brand new 2018 Z650 last week. And I’ve noticed the same problems with the gears. Seems to be fine going up but down sometimes it just won’t shift at all. I’ve been slowing down to a set of lights had having to try 3 or 4 times to get in into second. Also sometimes jumps into neutral from 2nd.

Did you have any luck with the problem?
