About to buy a z650, heard the manual suggests rpm under 4000 for first 500 miles :/

Is that really necessary? Isn't it better for the engine to go through each rpm range and try not to stay at same rpm range for long time?

I also did it by the book. To me the first 500 or 600 under 4k was slow. You can forget about going on the freeway if you want to keep it under 4k rpms.

My Z650 was a demo model with around 200 miles on the clock when I bought it, so it had only been test ridden to that point. The dealer said breaking it in was pointless and not to bother, so I didn't. I haven't had any issues at all. But that's just my experience.
