Hi all,

I picked up my new Z650 a couple of weeks ago. Loving it so far - last bike was a Ninja 300. It's nice to have some torque!

I purchased the restricted ("LAMS") version (available in NZ/AUS/EU markets I think) as I'm still a year away from my full motorcycle license. Hopefully I'll be able to derestrict the bike when the time comes - but I haven't been able to find much info on this model. I'll be keeping an eye out here to see if anyone does it.

It has 52hp/59nm as opposed to 68hp on the unrestricted version, and it's tuned to deliver peak torque lower in the rev range.

Anyway, here she is. First mods will be a Puig windscreen, a tail tidy, nicer levers, and some frame sliders.

Cheers.

Very nice step up from the Ninja 300 although I would have expected someone coming from that to get another sport bike. Do you ever plan to go back to sport bikes in the future? heard a lot of good things about the Ninja 650.

Ive seen the z650 referred to a sports bike and I think it is. Its the ninja 650 naked version is all. That's why a lot of parts for either bike fit both bikes. Unless sport bikes are only considered that because of fairings? If that's the case, I didn't know.

I still see it as a sport bike. As far as I know, it's basically a Ninja 650 without fairings. The motor is the same (if not, similar, I think). It's fast and agile, easy to flick around the twisties. Definitely not a cruiser.

I did initially prefer the look of the Ninja 650 but it was a couple of thousand dollars more than the Z650 and a bit out of my budget. Very happy with the Z650 now that I have it though :)

Actually I have to agree with you guys this is still very much a sport bike and with bike makers creating so many inbetween models this is one topic we should see brought up a number of times. In the end its just a slight different take on the 650 as we know it.

Hey mate, got the same colour, purchased it two months ago and very happy with it. I'm very interested to see how the Puig wind screen look like. have you had it installed & can you post some pictures? I live in Auckland and just wondering if there someone her in New Zealand that sell it? I usually get my parts from ebay if not available here.

I'm planning to install a tail tidy, wind screen, short levers, wheel tape, replace the head light with LED, passenger seat cowl as i wont carry anyone till i get my full license, bar end mirrors, USB and add a bit of colour! got a lot to save before i start spending :)

Cheers

Haven't got the windscreen yet but I'm going to go and see the guys at Motozone tomorrow, I'm about a 20 minute ride from the shop. I'm gonna see what parts they can get in, they've looked after me in the past.

Usually I buy off Ebay too but I like to support local (if the price is right). I'll let you know!

I always got confused too. People say the lean forward position means its a sport but even some of the ninjas have a more upright seating position.
From what I seen it comes down to riding it and finding out what you like, or just go with what you see reported from reviews. Not all owners are up to par enough to go off their experience alone.
