I traded in my 2013 Honda cb500x last Saturday after test riding a "used" (41 miles) Z. Didn't plan on buying but I did 😀. I have almost 600 miles on it already. Needless to say I love it. Should I let the dealer do first service our buy a service manual and torque wrench and do it myself?

If you have the owner's manual, then it tells you everything that is needed to be done. You can then judge if you have the skills and experience to do it or let the dealer do it. All of it is pretty straightforward normal maintaining stuff. The only out of the ordinary stuff is valve clearance checking and adjustments at 15,000 miles, and synchronizing the throttle bodies at 7600 miles. So, buy the service manual on ebay for $60 and some good synthetic oil and a filter and drain plug washers, and go for it.

I never really noticed vibrations on the Honda. The Z is a different story, the mirrors shake to the point that images are unclear. I also notice a buzz in the seat that can be quite pronounced at times. That being said it doesn't bother me at all. I love this bike.

I may change to bar end for the looks, but I don't think the sticks are a safety issue. I can see cars in them, I just can't tell if they are cop cars. The flashing lights will eventually let me know if they are.

The vibes are that big of a deal for me, and I have arthritis in my hands. The left side vibrates more than the left on mine, so mounted my GoPro on the right mirror, that even helped a bit. And from about 4000- 5500 rpm, all smooths out fine. I think I might even up the gearing by dropping 2 teeth on the rear which will help too, by lowering the rev range at regular cruising speeds.
