Hi All,

I’m new here, and I didn’t have introduced me yet. My name is Marcel and I’m in the marker for an new bike since I sold my Bandit 650. Looking for an lightweight bike. I always said that I want an Street triple, but now the time is here to buy one, I’m in doubt because the Z650 sounds also as an bike for pure fun. Hopefully I can find some answers here.

First I like to know how great of leanangle is possible with the stock rearset. I like to do track days, and with my CBR600F2 I was never an problem, but the riding possition was killing. I now that with an street triple you can put the rearset of an daytone to increase the height. Is there an option for the Z650 to make it higher? Or is there an to great risk of hitting other parts first? Realy like to know the track experiance of someone here.

Hopefully you can help me to decide. It’s choosing between an fairly used/new Z650 or and 2010/2011 non ABS street triple.

Thanks!

Compare to CBR600 F2, z650 is much lower in horsepower.

Yes you can buy rear set from thailland. Tremonte bought one for his ninja 650 which I think can fit z650 too.

Triumph triple lot of HP compare to both the CBR600 and z650. Top speed 250 km/h compare to z650 200 km/h.

Buy the triumph triple for you track day fun. Z650 is 2 cylinder machine. Can't compare it to street triple. Different category.

Thanks for your reply!

It is not the horsepower what I’m consurned off. Since track days are only max 6 days a year, I want an bike with also fun for the road. Here in the Netherlands the are low speed limits and a lot of speed traps. So top power is not the main reason for me to buy a bike. Realy want to know the track limits of the Z650 and if possible to extend the limits.

Over here bikes older than 2015 must have ABS, so the the budget allows an triple without ABS or an Z650 with ABS. So if the Z650 fits my needs, thats the one I want to go for, but I’m in doubt because I’m not sure or it fit my needs, that what brings me here

I don't know about track riding but so far I have no problem with undercarriage/peg scrapping when cornering with the z650.

I you are very good and can scrap the foot peg then can get a rearset no problem.

On the z650 i like the riding height, light, nimble, clutch pressure very light and slipper clutch. You can follow the superbike at least up to 180-190 km/h due to excellent low and mid range torgue. At last not least the ABS, save my ass on a few occasion.

What I don't like the vibration around 5500 rpm but I have changed the gearing to avoid it

But coming from CBR600, I think you better off with the triple street.

Btw I went to Krabi, Thailand from Johor, Malayia a trip of about 2500 km with no problem.

Thanks! A lot of usefull information.

My previues bike was an Bandit 650 (it was heavy! Don't know te pounds, but it was 248KG). I realy want something light, but with power but not to mouch. Fun riding is steering not fast at a strait line. Before my Bandit I had an CBR600 F2, it was lighter but the riding position was killing me. That's why I want an light bike with un up right riding position.

I have several options:

-MT-07 (FZ-07 in the US) is in my opinion ugly :|
-SV650 is to heavy
-Street Triple (2007-2010) is an option for my budget, but lack of ABS and much older bike.
-Z650 is beautiful!!!:grin2:

But I had some concerns about the rearset height and ground clearance. Because I like to do some track days a year. (and the budget doessent allow an extra bike :crying:. But i found out that you can replace the rearsets and that the rearsets are mounted high for standard. So I think that I have made an choice. And that I will stay longer at the forums!

Thanks so far!

Oh and I found this pegs, looks ideal. Someone with experiance?

The short gear ratios of the Z650 tranny make it perfect for country roads with lower speed limits. And the low 6th gear mean you can accelerate very well in top gear to pass a car at higher speeds. The gearing plus the slipper/assist clutch are big positives for me. Also, the saddle is remarkably comfortable. I spent 12 hours riding one day, and it was still comfortable.

Coming from a true sport bike, you will find the foot pegs to be strangely far forward. I like to put pressure on the ball of my inside foot in a corner, and the Z650 seemed awkward in this regard at first. But after 3000 miles, I am getting used to the peg position and can corner more naturally.
