First bike. Drove it home (scared) on Monday, I have been been sick so haven't gotten to ride it. I got the itch earlier so took it out around town. Awww man I love this thing. I was gonna go Yamaha FZ-07 but Kawasaki had the $99 per month promotion so I picked it up. I really love that the gas tank isn't plastic covered. Really happy I bought it. Currently 15 miles on it.

z650 is a good for 1st bike since it has ABS and clutch slip and not heavy. It is easier to control. But if you a beginner rider be careful the bike can go fast.

Talking about control, the throttle control is terrible. It almost like a "on", "off" switch from zero throttle to beginning of twisting throttle. It will mess up your cornering line. Planning to re flash ecu, I heard it will adjust/reset the throttle control.

Great choice of a first bike. Unlike most riders that start with 250's and 300's odds are you will have this for more than one season... I hope.

Just don't get too ambitious with the throttle and everything will be fine :D

Yeah took it out again today. Man I love riding. popped a small unintentional wheelie, thank god whiskey throttle wasn't my first reaction when the bikes motor pushed me back. I actually did some research before getting this bike and it seemed like the right choice. Didn't want a 300 then getting tired of it like I read so many others have done. Im in it for the long haul... Hopefully it gets more aftermarket support.

The on-off is the engine braking. I've reduced the effects some by changing to aftermarket exhaust. It has helped to smoothe the transition. I will be completely remapping the bike next week with a custom dyno, and hopefully getting rid of the engine braking altogether. The Rapid Bike ECU will be here around Wednesday, and the retune and dyno will probably happen either the end of the week, or first of the following. It all depends on Freddy's race schedule. (Superbike Unlimited) Once we have the bike dialed in, he will be able to provide maps specifically for the Z. Stay in touch through my youtube channel, or at www.tremonte.tv/tuning

Good stuff Tremonte, been watching your stuff on YouTube. It is appreciated. It would be interesting to know how tuning helps. Currently i have no coast. As soon as I release the throttle even in 6th gear going 50+ it wants to slow me down. Best way i can describe it is "drag brake" like in an RC car.

??? eliminate the "on off" effect. Easier throttle control. I do want some engine braking. Going down hill fron the mountain range will burn the brake pad if without engine braking. Looking forward to your dyno tuning.

Of course, the "off" is the engine braking, a result of engine compression. An engine with a lower compression ratio will not have as sudden effect as most modern motorcycles with high compression ratios. The "on" is the start of acceleration, so that in between "jerkiness" will over time be a learned response and controlled easier with no thought to it.

Not at all, you just down shift to reduce brake wear for down hill stretches. You'll still have engine braking, I am only wanting to fix the fuel cut that makes it so severe.
