When it comes to applying what they learned from riding the Z650, this part stands out to me:

It accelerates strong from a stop, but makes its best power as the digital tach sweeps past 5,000 rpm.
Going to try that for myself along with looking out for feedback of it from other publications and owners.

Those who are moving up from a smaller engine Kawasaki like the 300 may be interested in the Z650 if it's not intimidating at all.

It’s a capable beginner bike, commuter or jack of all trades for someone looking to buy a streetfighter on a budget.
Granted I didn't start with a 650, but it sounds like a good starter bike for those who has taken a course or two.

If you keep it around 4-5K when you’re riding, you’ll have good acceleration on tap when you need to roll-on to get you moving.
That's around the general range of rpm when I'm on the highway which makes it easier for me to overtake slower cars and bypass them if I have good acceleration on tap.

Going that big of a jump in CC's just require patience and discipline to edge yourself up the throttle instead of winding it out as much as you would on the 300. Most riders that have made a similar jump that I know have done the same, those that just got to 1000cc's end up face planted ;)

As tempting as it'll be to just crank er' back, I'll definitely hold myself humble and take it easy lol. No shame in learning the bike in and out before trying to do something I'm not ready for and end up like those face planted haha

As long as you can follow that thinking through to applying it on the bike then you'll be better off than most people who go 600cc's+ as their first bike. Some go right for liters and weeks later you find out they fell.
